March Madness? I’ll Show You Madness
There are few things that could get me more excited than NCAA Basketball in March, but Dunkin’ Donuts managed to do just that by offering Free Coffee on Mondays. Yes, I am obsessed with Starbucks (in fact I am enjoying my delicious favorite iced coffee as I type), but free is free. Plus, the Dunkin Donuts near me has a convenient drive thru. All I need to do is add my syrup and soy milk, and it’s nearly the same as my Starbucks order. I was ready… hey, I might as well grab a bagel while I’m there because who really wants to just order the free thing? I have too much pride for that. I get up on Monday and head over to Dunkin’ Donuts. As I drive up to the drive thru menu I notice a paper sign. No! It couldn’t be! They apologize but due to some regional marketing error, they are unable to offer me my free coffee. If it’s any consolation, I can expect offers similar to that in the future. I don’t feel the least bit consoled. I feel jipped.
Guess what I did on Tuesday? That’s right, I returned to my home away from home and work…. Starbucks. I also received my coveted Gold Status card that same day from the folks at Starbucks. It’s personalized, it’s shiny… it’s wonderful. Starbucks made me feel special.
Shame on you, Dunkin’ Donuts. You were cheaper, more convenient… you really had a lot going for you. It’s a shame things worked out the way they did. It’s not me, it’s definitely you. You just never cared about me like Starbucks does.
